We mean it! It doesn’t stop at almonds, or cashews, or walnuts. Have you ever been in a “snacky” mood and sat down with a bag of pistachios? before you know it, theres a larger pile of shells than the bag itself! You keep saying one more, but the fingers do all the talking. Yea, they’re that good, we know. Addicting you could say. Which is why we had to include them to our list. As delicious as pistachios are, their health benefits are even more impressive. After reading an article by American Pistachio Growers, APG, we are in love with what they claim to be a superfood! As we’ve spoken about in previous blog posts, nuts are an amazing snack to help cure hunger until your next meal, add necessary healthy fats to your diet, give you B vitamins, potassium, antioxidants and many other nutrients.
Pistachios in particular help with brain and eye function. According to APG, “Loma Linda University (LLU) researchers found that eating nuts on a regular basis enhances brainwave frequencies associated with cognition, learning, memory, recall and other key brain functions.” This is especially true with pistachios. Pistachios are also high in carotenoids, which help fight against cataracts AND they are high in antioxidants which help defend against macular degeneration, or blindness.
