Warm Up with Nut Butter Hot Chocolate

Hot ChocolateI love when it gets cold enough for my favorite hot drink. Nothing feels better than coming home from a day skiing or hiking in the nippy winter air and sipping hot chocolate with friends around the fire. Add a splash of brandy or other suitable liqueur and that’s even better! But have you tried hot chocolate with Maisie Jane’s nut butter?

I have several recipes for you to try today. I’m a big fan of chocolate hazelnut with real dairy so I’m starting with that one. But almond milk also makes a delicious drink so I’ve added two versions that feature that. And if you love caramel and salted chocolate drinks, let me know what you think of my last suggestion. It sounds a little intense to me but I know people line up for salted caramel hot chocolate drinks. See which one suits your fancy!

Chocolate Hazelnut Butter Hot Chocolate

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup Maisie Jane’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 ounces brandy, Frangelico or chocolate liqueur, optional
  • Whipped cream (or marshmallows toasted 30 seconds under the broiler), to top

Preparation:

  1. Bring the milk to a simmer in a pot over medium-high heat. Add the Chocolate Hazelnut Butter. Stir until it is melted and fully mixed in. Add the cinnamon stick and bring back to a simmer.
  2. Divide the alcohol (if using it) between two mugs. Ladle the hot chocolate mixture into the mugs and serve with fresh whipped cream or marshmallows.

Vegan Almond Butter Hot Chocolate

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 teaspoons Maisie Jane’s Smooth Almond Butter
  • 2 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 oz Amaretto (optional)
  • Flaked dark chocolate (optional) for topping

Preparation:

  1. Place almond milk, cocoa powder, almond butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a small sauce pan. Turn up heat to high and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 3 minutes.
  3. Divide Amaretto (if desired) between two mugs. Ladle the hot chocolate mixture into thew mugs.
  4. Enjoy with flaked or finely chopped dark chocolate on top, if desired.

Salted Caramel Cashew Butter Hot Chocolate

Serves 2

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Place almond milk, cocoa powder, Sea Salted Caramel Cashew Butter, and sugar in a small sauce pan. Turn up heat to high and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 3 minutes.
  3. Ladle the hot chocolate mixture into thew mugs.
  4. Enjoy with white chocolate chips on top, if desired.
