How about making some candy apples? You might think it’s a long, sticky process that leaves you with a messy kitchen and your kids with a sugar high, but making candy apples couldn’t be easier. Healthy Candy Apples Recipe

Serves 4



For the caramel apples: 

  • 4 braeburn or pink lady apples
  • 4 wooden skewers
  • 2 tbsp. smooth almond butter
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. lucuma powder
  • (Tip: If you don’t have lucuma powder, you can add an extra tsp. of maple syrup instead)

Optional topping ideas:

  • Coconut flakes, or desiccated coconut
  • Goji berries
  • Raisins
  • Milled flaxseed
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Sunflower seeds


  1. Line a baking tray with a baking paper.
  2. Slide a wooden skewer through the top of the core of each apple and place them on the baking tray.
  3. In a food processor, combine the almond butter, coconut oil, maple syrup and lucuma powder until all of the ingredients are mixed together.
  4. Spoon the caramel onto an apple, and spread it using a knife or the back of a spoon, leaving a bit of space at the base of the apple uncovered.
  5. Top the apple with desired toppings, and place the apple upright on the baking paper.
  6. Repeat this process with the rest of the apples.
  7. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour before consuming to allow the caramel to set.
