Here at Maisie Jane’s we believe that you deserve to trust the food you buy to be as healthy as possible for you and your family. Our family has been farming for four generations and we place a great deal of importance on delivering food in the same pure and natural way it was always done before the label “organic” ever existed. Back in the day, organic food was known as “food”! But today consumers have to worry about whether what they are eating is doused in chemicals, pesticides or made in a lab, and we strongly believe that you shouldn’t have to!
If you visit our online store you’ll notice that many of our products are labeled “organic” and others are labeled “natural.” You should know that according to the FDA or USDA, “natural” does not necessarily mean organic. A naturally grown product can still be processed with additives that may or may not be completely good for you. In fact, the word “natural” actually means nothing as far as regulatory agencies are concerned. Companies can use the word “natural” without having to pass the stringent criteria used for the “organic” label. At Maisie Jane’s, however, we promise you that “all natural” for us means no chemicals, no synthetics, and nothing from a lab. Those are our ethics rather than the law.
The “organic” label guarantees by law that your food is grown without harmful pesticides, herbicides, chemical NPK fertilizers, antibiotics, or growth hormones. Food is only granted the right to use this label after the processors pass certified inspections to ensure that it has been made without any artificial methods. For example, the components of our certified organic goods are carefully produced and stored separately from our natural products. We are also inspected annually by CCOF, an organic certifying authority recognized by the USDA Organic standards. There’s an added cost in that, but when something from us is labeled “organic,” not only has it been grown without chemicals or synthetic ingredients on our farm, even ingredients we purchase from other producers are organically certified as well!
