Do you love fudge? It is one of the most popular desserts in the United States! That’s probably because it is one the easiest candy-like desserts you could make. You could do it the traditional way and make a sugar syrup, heated to just the right temperature, cool and beat it until it thickens. But for today’s recipe all you need to do is mix your chosen ingredients together in a blender or food processor, spread it into a pan, let chill in the freezer, cut into squares and eat!
The word “fudge” comes from the early 17th century. It was used as a verb (and still is today) to indicate that something was just mixed together in a simple or maybe even underhanded way using whatever ingredients were on hand. The result was “fudged,” meaning it wasn’t elegant or perfect, but it often could still work out.
And so it is with this fudge recipe. You start with Maisie Jane’s Creamy Cashew Butter. Add a little coconut oil and maple syrup and there’s the base! You could be done right there. Maybe add some sea salt flakes on top if you like the salty-sweet combination. Maybe a little cinnamon mixed in? Or perhaps you’ll try adding dried cranberries and/or currants or raisins for a fruity treat. Chopped nuts and chocolate chips might be good. Some people might even get “fancy” and add a layer of chocolate fudge on top! Dare I say that a little bacon would be delicious? (Seriously, bacon and maple syrup is a great combination!) Basically, you can’t go wrong—just “fudge it”!
