Hurtado Family Maisie Jane’s is very proud to be part of an industry with a strong focus on healthy and sustainable farming practices. At the 45^th annual Almond Conference put on by the Almond Board this past December, Almond Board Director of Sustainability and Environmental Affairs, Gabriele Ludwig introduced a new and interesting publication called Growing Good. It showcases the fine work almond growers have been doing in this area and how the Almond Board has been supporting these efforts.

Did you know that . . .

50 percent of almond processors use solar energy at their facilities.
78 percent of almond farmers use efficient micro-irrigation. By using underground drip lines that deliver water directly to the tree root system, less water is used because less water is wasted through evaporation.
Many almond growers are also beekeeping to pollinate their crops. 94 percent of them coordinate with their beekeepers about pest control methods being considered and how to keep the bees safe and healthy.
Almond farming practices currently offset about 50 percent of orchard carbon emissions on the average.
