Almond Oatmeal Scrub for Wonderful Soft Smooth Skin

Posted on : October 3rd, 2017

And now for something completely different! We’re usually all about eating nuts on this blog, but today I want to share a really easy recipe for using them in a different way—as an all natural scrub to use on your face or body.

If you haven’t added exfoliating scrubs to your beauty routine, you really must try it. Exfoliating helps remove ground in dirt and old dead skin, and leaves your skin so soft and smooth it will absolutely glow! But don’t do it every day—dermatologists recommend no more than 2-3 times a week.

The oatmeal and almonds in this scrub were chosen for specific functions. Oatmeal is great for helping to maintain your skin’s natural barrier. In fact, ground oats, also known as colloidal oatmeal, are an old-fashioned remedy for sensitive skin. Pour a handful or two in your bath and soak in the tub to calm a sunburn or rash. It leaves a silky residue that protects sensitive skin from irritants in the environment. In this scrub the oats also gently remove dirt and oil from the pores and the almonds provide the texture needed to remove rough dry flakey skin.

How to Make Your Scrub

Maisie Jane's AlmondsThis scrub lasts a long time because you’re not going to add any liquid ingredients until you’re ready to use it. Simply grind some Maisie Jane’s natural unsalted almonds in your food processor or blender until you have a fine paste. Set aside, then grind oats into a powder—any kind of rolled or steelcut oats will do.

Combine equal parts of your ground almonds and oats in a container. Leave as is or add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (about 15-20 drops per 1 cup of your scrub) and stir well. Rose Geranium or Rose oil is particularly nice in this!

How to Use Your Scrub

When you are ready to use your scrub, first wash your face. Then put about a teaspoon of the scrub in your hand and add just enough water to moisten the mixture. Apply the scrub in a circular motion,  focussing on areas around your nose and forehead. Rinse it off with cool water and then follow up with your favorite body oil or moisturizer if desired.
